STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY
The School follows up on students who are late for school or absent without explanation. An explanatory note, or email written and signed by the parent or guardian must be sent to the class teacher on the students return, explaining the absence. Alternatively a telephone call to the school office on the first day of the absence assists with attendance checks, particularly for prolonged absences.  A message may also be left on the answering machine (telephone 6267 4205).

HOMEWORK
Homework will be related to class work and where possible will incorporate the family and the home environment.

Early Childhood-Primary
There are no specific requirements for homework in the early childhood years however there will be occasions when students will be asked to undertake enquiries at home to extend class investigations. In addition parents are encouraged to read to their children on a daily basis and encourage a love of literature. Children who read regularly to an adult are more likely to experience success in literacy. Reading books are sent home for children to read to a family member. All students will visit the school library and borrow library books each week which they can bring home to share. Parents may also come and borrow books for their children.

Upper Primary
Homework tasks may be set as separate tasks or as a completion of class work. Consideration will be given to resources available to students at home.
Homework tasks are set between Monday to Thursday.
In Grade 5/6 it is expected that appropriate homework tasks of up to 30 minutes will be set on a regular basis.

Secondary
Students 7-10 are expected to record all homework tasks in their homework diaries. Parents should inspect these regularly and sign diaries each fortnight. Parents should contact the class teacher with a message or signed note in the homework diary if there is a legitimate reason for incomplete homework.

In Grade 7 set tasks will often take up to 45 minutes. Students are not expected to complete homework tasks beyond 1.5 hours.

In Grade 8 students should aim to spend up to 1 to 1.5 hours each night on homework activities.

In Grade 9 and 10 students may need to spend 1.5 to 2 hours on homework and associated study activities.

REPORTING TO PARENTS

The progress of each child is monitored and reported to parents at regular intervals. Class information sessions are held for parents of children in primary classes and Grade 7 in term one. These are designed to enable parents to gain information about class programs and to hear about features of the organisation of teaching and learning activities for the ensuing year.

Parent/Teacher interviews are held mid year for all students. Formal written reports are provided at these interviews.

All  students will receive a progress report in April to enable parents to gauge how well their child has settled into their work. These reports are followed by the opportunity for parents to arrange an interview with subject teachers to discuss aspects of their child's progress.

In December all students K-9 receive a summary Report.

STUDENT BEHAVIOUR
The school believes that successful schools are characterised by a supportive school environment in which the academic, social, physical and emotional needs of all students are paramount. It further proposes that the context in which children learn has a direct effect on the level of their success. It is the responsibility of all members of the school community to provide and maintain an environment that strives to maximise the effectiveness of both teaching and learning. Disruptive or dangerous student behaviour will mean students will forfeit their right to participation.

SUN SMART BEHAVIOUR
Wearing of hats outside is expected for students during daylight saving hours in the school year (October- March).
