    (Edgar, 1997)
    Habitat: Exposed reef, sand; 0 – 60 m depth
Distribution: SA to NSW and around Tasmania
Maximum Size: Length to 650 mm
    Diet: Small fish, invertebrates
    Comments:
Only trumpeter commonly seen by divers. Perch-like shape and bronze colouration in the upper half of the body. Mature animals of up to 30 years age occur in deep water.
  • Family Latrididae

  • Latris lineata - Stripey Trumpeter, Tasmanian Trumpeter

  • Latris lineata - Stripey Trumpeter
    (Edgar, 1997)
    Habitat: Exposed reef; 0 – 300 m depth
Distribution: WA to NSW and around Tasmania (also NZ)
Maximum Size: Length to 1.2 m
    Diet: Small invertebrates
    Comments:
Pointed snout and olive green stripes along the upper sides of the body. This was once the most commonly caught species around Tasmania but during the past half century the population has been almost eliminated from shallow water. Species now found primarily in deep water or along remote sections of the southern and western Tasmanian coasts. Considered one of the best eating fish.
