Activities in the Centre : In the Centre students are able to spend time observing the live animals in the aquaria. They work in pairs or groups on a number of practical activities based around their focus topic. Each activity usually takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes. Some examples of activities are:

    • Adaptations - vertebrate and invertebrate
    • Classification - between and within phyla
    • Legal Size Limits for recreational fishing
    • Feeding relationships
    • Plankton survey
    • Marine Protected Areas
    • Biodiversity Survey
    • Pollution

Activities on the RV Penghana

Whilst out on the R.V. Penghana students work in groups to collect and compare information from a number of sites with varying depths, varying exposure to environmental conditions or varying degrees of human influence

The boat is equipped to collect data about :

  • Temperature
  • Salinity
  • Turbidity
  • Dissolved oxygen levels
  • Weather conditions 
  • Sediment types
  • Benthic populations

We are also able to take small groups to Snake Island to study foreshore populations
