The Chelicerata are arthropods without antennae. They include spiders, scorpions, mites and pycnogonids, or sea spiders. Only the pycnogonids, horseshoe crabs (restricted to the Northern Hemisphere) and some mites are marine.

    Habitat: Exposed reef,  8 - 126 m depth
    Distribution: SA to NSW and around Tas
    Maximum size: Length to 30 mm
    Diet: Carnivorous. Often found in association with the bryozoan Orthoscuticella ventricosa. Eat by inserting their proboscis into their prey (also anemones and hydroids).
    Comments
    Pycnogonids look like spiders and have four, five or six pairs of legs, generally ending in claws. The body is very small, with long, slender legs. This class contains more than 1000 species, however most are less than 10 mm and therefore are rarely seen.
