There are several different types of sea slugs found at the Marine
Discovery Centre, Sea Hares and Nudibranchs.
|

- Aplysia sydneyensis - Sea Hare
- (Edgar, 1997)
|
- Habitat: Sheltered and moderately exposed reef, sand; 0 -
20 m depth
- Distribution: WA to Qld and around Tasmania
- Maximum Size: Length to 150 mm
- Diet: Herbivores (seaweeds, seagrass, blue-green algae)
- Comments:
- Sea hares produce millions of eggs in
spaghetti-like filaments and also have the ability to release purple
ink when threatened. They congregate in large groups to mate.

- Ceratosoma brevicaudatum -
Nudibranch
- (Gowlett-Holmes)
|
- Habitat: Moderately exposed reef; 0 - 100 m depth
- Distribution: WA to NSW and around Tasmania
- Maximum Size: Length to 150 mm
- Diet: Sponges
- Comments:
- Feeding on sponges, these nudibranchs are able to
extract toxic chemicals from the sponges and use them in their own
defense. The bright colours often reflect toxicity.
