From the Principal
The learning journey of the class of 2007
Please do not be distracted by discussions about leavers dinners and
formal clothes.
They are costly: fact.
Of greater interest is that fact that all the students who have moved on
from Woodbridge have enrolled in either College or TAFE. The students
have worked on their goal setting future planning with Flo Hurst, Pathway
Planning Officer all year. Some have already been on flexible programs
exploring TAFE. Glen McNeil, Youth Learning Officer, worked closely with a
small group and took them to different places to check out courses and
accommodation.
Jo Turnock, Youth Pathways Advisor also worked with our students on
developing their confidence, their CV/resumes and interview skills.
The students all had the opportunity to participate in mock interviews with
the members of the D¡¯Entrecasteaux Rotary Club.
The students were truly focussed on and supported in their learning
journey.
This is consistent with the Guaranteeing Futures legislation in Tasmania. It
is essential to know that from now on students will be in some form of
education and training until they are 17. The Tasmanian government is
committed to ensuring that our young people have skills and attributes that
will enable them to lead purposeful and productive lives.
That is worth celebrating.
The friendships with each other and their positive relationships with staff
members are worth celebrating.
Their achievements will be celebrated at Presentation Evening which will be
held on Tuesday 11th December at 6.00pm. We hope to see as many parents and
carers as possible at this evening of achievement.

Thai Fund Raising
A big THANK YOU to Carol Mason who runs the Woodbridge Market. She
arranged for a jar full of jellybeans to be used as a fund raiser for
The Thai Exchange. One had to guess how many jellybeans were in the
jar. The competition ran over two markets and the first prize was $50 and
the second prize was the jar of jellybeans.
The first prize winner was Fay Clifford who guessed 327 (326 was the correct
number) and Kaye McQueen won the jar of jellybeans. This competition raised
$53.50c for the Thai Exchange Fund. All the money for the airfares has been
raised. It was a great effort by the parents of the students who are going
to Thailand who organised events to raise this money and to the school
community, local community and The Rotary Club for supporting these events.
Woodbridge team 2 cricket report
Tuesday¡¯s tournament was a great experience for everyone. Even for some who
were not that fond of the game, they still had a go!
There were two teams from Woodbridge - a boy¡¯s team, team no. 1 and then a
mixed team, team no.2. In the first game our team was beaten 109 to -17, but
in the end it ended up being the losing team who were enjoying their victory
more than the winning team.
In the 2nd game for us the victory was ours against Margate. We won 32 to
30. But in the 3rd game we were thrashed 60 to 11. In the final play off
versus Snug we won 23 to -11. At the end of a great day we were all happy
with our winnings.

Wanted: Families to help! Host Family Program
What is a Host Family?
Host Families are people who share their homes with a young person with a
disability. Visits are for up to one weekend per month and involve normal
household activities. Being a host family allows a young person with a
disability to spend time in your home with your family while the natural
family has a hard earned break. The amount and frequency of Hostings can be
flexible within the program guidelines. Reimbursement for each hosting is
made by CBS to the Host
Family to cover activities, electricity, food, travel etc.
Who can be a Host Family?
Anyone can be a host family, from a single person to a couple with children
to people who might be retired. Prospective hosts undergo a selective
screening process including national security and reference checks.
Who is hosted?
Young people aged from approx 5years to 18 years of age with a disability
are matched with a host family. The children may have a wide variety of
disabilities with varying needs.
Will I like the person I host?
We try to match people to promote long-term supportive relationships, but
the decision remains yours.
How do I apply?
There is a careful application process to ensure the safety of any child
that is hosted. Please phone the Hosted Respite Coordinator on 6208 6600 for
further information.
Marine Discovery Centre – Christmas Card Competition
The Marine Discovery Centre would like to congratulate Lochlan Carius and
Georgia Knowles, both from 1/2 Harris, who are the joint winners of our 2007
Christmas card competition! Their colourful pictures, shown below, will
feature on the front of this year¡¯s Christmas cards which are sent to our
MDC friends all over Australia.
Well done Lochlan and Georgia, and thank you to all those students who
entered the competition.

Sea Stars Visit - Marine Discovery Centre
On Friday November 30th we visited the Marine Discovery Centre.
We touched some of the fish, listened to stories about the sea, did puzzles,
dressed up as divers and pirates, did shell rubbings and got to know some of
the creatures in the touch tank. Everyone had a GREAT time!
Our last session for the year is on December 14th and we would like to have
a celebration – if you could bring along a small plate of party food to
share that would be great. Please try to bring along food that is not too
high in fat or sugar – savoury foods would be best as the children will
probably fill up on this and not eat their lunch later!
