Woodbridge School is situated in the stunning
rural environment on the western shore of the Southern D¡¯Entrecasteaux Channel, in Southern Tasmania.
Established on its current site in 1953 the School has a strong community focus.
It caters for the needs of
students from a wide geographical area, and from Kindergarten to Year 10.
The
school offers the facilities and curriculum of urban schools with the
benefits of a safe, clean and peaceful marine rural environment. The
school¡¯s facilities include
recently renovated early
childhood, primary and secondary areas which are spacious and welcoming. Primary
and secondary students have
access to specialist facilities including kitchen, workshop, science
laboratory, the farm and computer laboratory.
The superb
location of the school adds a special dimension to its educational programs
as students are able to develop a first hand appreciation of their
environment, and utilise the marine, rural and natural bushland environment
to enhance educational opportunities. Woodbridge¡¯s facilities for environmentally based learning are unique. The
Marine Discovery Centre provides the opportunity for authentic student
learning either on-shore or on the RV Penghana. The 12 acre school farm and grounds
are the focus for the nationally recognised Landcare program. Surrounding areas
of bushland, farmland and even islands provide community locations for
learning. The camps program further
enrich the curriculum at Woodbridge.
The school¡¯s
relative proximity to the city of Hobart, also enables students to access
urban recreational, educational and cultural facilities. A rural setting,
up-to-date technology and the proximity to Hobart give the school the best
of both worlds.
The educational philosophy of the school is
based on the maximisation of individual talents and capabilities, whilst
providing a smooth progression from Kindergarten to Grade 10. The outcome is
an educational program that provides quality, continuity and security for
students of all ages.
The Woodbridge curriculum aims to cater for students' individual needs in a
supportive environment. The Tasmanian Education Department Curriculum is
being adapted and implemented in our school.
The school program aims to take full advantage of the
educational benefits of a kindergarten to grade 10 school.
The school asserts the
right of students to learn without disruption, and
discipline is based on responsibility and logical
consequences.
